Baby April is one of the only songs in the Q&C catalogue that is based on someone else’s story. It was written after reading a news article on the tragic murder of a mother-to-be in Grimsby. The story speaks for itself I guess, the baby had already been named April and the happy couple were busy preparing their lives for the new arrival when the mother was murdered in the street by a stranger in a seemingly random attack.

I’ve always hated the Bee-Gees song ‘Tragedy’ for how trivial it has made the word tragedy sound. It’s only when you hear of stories like this that you realise what a true tragedy is.
